Inventions created by the human mind can be protected under any of the following legal concepts:

Patent

Right conferred by the State to an inventor or his successor in title to exploit in an exclusive manner an invention that is considered new, that contains an inventive activity and that is susceptible of industrial application. Protection is granted for a specific period of 20 years.

Utility Model

Objects, utensils, devices or tools that, as a result of a change in their arrangement, configuration, structure or form, present a different function with respect to the parts integrating it or advantages in terms of usefulness.

Industrial design

Protection of Industrial Designs and Industrial Models. Industrial Designs are all combinations of figures, lines or colors that are incorporated into an industrial product for ornamentation purposes and provide it with a peculiar and own aspect; while Industrial Models are constituted by any three-dimensional form that serves as a type or pattern for the manufacture of an industrial product, which provides it with a special appearance as long as it does not involve technical effects.
